Finger Painting

It was really fun to see Abby play with paints for the first time. She loves making art. We sat and painted together for an hour. Rainbow colors running through her hair, a kitchen floor full of drying art and eight paintings later = finger painting success and an immediate trip to the shower!

So excited to paint

21 weeks and a delightful SURPRISE

21 weeks

Abby wanted her picture taken too!

21 weeks and we're excited to announce....

It's a GIRL!

Everything about having another little girl thrills us. I've been dreaming all day about how much fun it will be for Abby and her sister to grow up together! My heart is so full thinking about it.

Abby came with Joe and I today for the ultrasound.

Quote of the day: On the way to my doctor's office, we passed the hospital and it's new building addition. All of a sudden, Abby started shouting from the back seat, "Mommy! Look Mommy! Noah's Ark!" She is pretty fascinated these days with the "big ark God told Noah to build for all the animals".

Abby was fascinated when she saw the baby on the screen (until she was ready to go back to reading her High Five magazine with Daddy).  Abby has not stopped talking about her baby "sidder" all day.

After our appointment, Daddy went back to work. Abby and I went to the store (as planned) to pick out a little something for her baby sister. As we walked to the baby section, I spent time letting it all soak in. In the last 20 weeks I've completely connected with the fact that I'm carrying a baby inside of me. But, today when I learned I was carrying another baby girl I connected to her in a new way. My daughter. And if you think sundresses are cute...just imagine little summery sundresses in newborn size. Precious! Abby saw a little plush baby doll for an infant and said, "Mommy. Dollie. My baby sidder."  Abby picked out her little sister's first baby doll. She's got your back, little one.

We all love you so much already!

our baby's gift

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139: 13-16

As I sit here tonight, I'm in awe of our Creator, who is carefully creating another one of His masterpieces within me. I'm thankful and humbled by all that He has entrusted to me. I'm excited to meet my daughter face to face. I'm excited to see my sweet Abby's face when she meets her lifelong best friend. Thank you, Jesus!

Valentine's Day

After a LOVE-ly V-day breakfast with Daddy (during which Abby decided it must be her birthday because she got a few little gifts and a special breakfast), we celebrated with a bunch of our friends that we LOVE! My friend Heather coordinated a wonderful mommy/children breakfast that we enjoyed so much. Here are a few photos from the fun morning:

Everyone's chair had a personalized valentine holder hanging on the back. Abby loved walking around and putting a card in each one.
Even the moms got special treats!

We are so thankful for the amazing group of friends God has blessed us with! Not only does Abby have a great group of kiddos to grow up with, but their parents are equally great friends to Joe and I.

Our Daily Entertainment

Just in case you needed one more reason to smile today...we wanted to lend you some of our day's entertainment and laughter. Sometimes I wonder how I get anything done with this sweet and hysterical little love following me around everywhere I go.

Quad Racing?

Abby might not be ripping up the track like her Uncle Cory, but this girl  has really started to enjoy riding her quad down the street with her Daddy. Big accomplishment considering when Papa gave it to her for Christmas she was terrified and wouldn't go near it.

It's pretty funny to watch her go because she can't steer! My favorite part is hearing her say, "Daddy, help me!".  Coming in a close second would have to be the rainbow shades and owl hat!

MINE!

I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I saw this list of 'toddler rules' on a blog recently.  It really describes the phase Abby is in right now. If I had a dollar for every time we talk about sharing and kindness on a daily basis, I'd have a sweet little extra savings stashed!

On our way to the doctor's office today, Abby informed me that the sky was hers. Really? I told her that the sky was God's. She paused, thought about it and simply confirmed, "No. Sky is MINE!".  She cracks me up. I love this little girl so much!

Dr. Abby

For Abby's birthday this year, she got her very first doctor's kit. She loves playing doctor with her babies (and her mom and dad)! Less than a week later, we received a package in the mail from Nagymama. Can you imagine our excitement when we opened it to find a handmade Dr.'s coat with Abby's name on it? It's such a sweet treasure. A perfect fit and already very loved. You never need to convince Abby to dress up for the occasion!

Here's a look into Dr. Abby's exam room:

heart.

Her pockets were stocked with all the necessary tools!

After Abby gave her baby a shot, she picked Baby up, gave her a big hug and said "All done, Baby!".   Great bedside manner! :)

Little Artist

Two of Abby's favorite new phrases are "five meets (minutes)" and "No Mommy, I fivish!".

She has learned to use them in all situations (complete with hand gestures)...especially when she has made her mind up and isn't ready to do what we are asking her to do.

On another note, Abby loves to color with her markers, especially in the extra large coloring books Grandma brings her. She will literally sit for 30-40 minutes at a time focused on completing the pictures she is working on. It's precious! Go, my little artist, go!

Diary of a Potty Training Princess

We did it! Last weekend, we took the leap and started potty training. It sounds simple enough, but there was something about this transition that seemed a little overwhelming to me. Not sure if it was my natural anticipation of change and the unknown OR the reality of how much work it was going to be at first (pregnant ladies just don't have as much energy). BUT, one week later I can excitedly say, I'm really glad we did!

our happy little potty training princess
Day 1: We started by setting a timer and taking Abby to the potty every 15 minutes. If she went to the bathroom on the potty, her reward was an M&M or two.

Just in case you were wondering why potty training is tiring:
(There's just something about hearing a timer every 15 minutes of your day that makes it extra long.)

7:45- diapers off, Yo Gabba Gabba underpants on
8:15- 1st pee pee in the potty
8:50- 1st accident
9:05- told Daddy she needed to pee-pee and made it to the potty
9:15- 2nd accident- pooped in pants
10:05- 3rd accident- peed in pants and Mommy headed to Target to buy some more undies. I was thankful for some fresh air and a short break away from all things potty. Only 10 and I was ready for a break. Joe was amazingly patient and positive throughout the entire process.
10:23- peeed in potty
10:47- peed in potty (double yay!)
11:15- refused potty when the timer went off
11:22- accident #4
11:45- potty success
12:25- peed in potty
1:00- peed in potty and changed into a pull-up for naptime
1:00-4:00- took a wonderfully long nap...looks like we weren't the only ones tired by the afternoon. Learning how to go on the potty is exhausting stuff people! :)
4:02- peed in potty
4:20- peed in potty
4:40- peed in potty
5:00- woohooo more potty
5:40- accident #5
6:00- started peeing while sitting at the dinner table and told us. She held in the rest until we got her to the potty. That definitely got an M&M.
7:00- another potty success!
7:30- and finally time for bed
7:50-  I hear, "Mommy! Mommy! Help PLEEAAAASE! Mommy! Change me...my poopy!"  Lights on, diaper changed, bedtime pretty much starts from the beginning.
8:17- still not asleep thanks to lots of successes today.
total:  13 wins / 5 accidents = a sugar high from too many M&Ms = an extra late bedtime

Day 2: 0 accidents

Day 3: When she hears the timer, she screams "Potty MIME!" and takes one of us with her to the potty. That is unless she decides she is busy. In that case, she says while holding up her fingers, "No Mommy. I feesh (finish) watch Elmo. 5 more meets (minutes)."  No accidents today!

Day 4:  Turning point! Abby was outside playing with her Daddy when she she stopped playing and told him she needed to go potty. Joe stopped what they were doing, picked Abby up and ran her all the way home. She held it in all the way and made it to the potty. From that point on, she has told us every time she needs to go. No more timer! Woot woot!

Day 5: small accident while playing at a friend's house. Who can blame her? So much fun and excitement! Smooth sailing the rest of the day.

Day 6: We were playing at the neighbor's house this afternoon. Abby stopped playing to ask me to take her to the potty! Yay! I think I can officially say: Potty training was a success. Abby is potty trained (with the exception of naptime and overnight)!

Good job, BIG GIRL! We love you!

Daddy turns 2-9

Yesterday was Joe's 29th birthday. We love celebrating birthdays in our house...even on a Thursday when Daddy had to work all day and night! It's possible to squeeze celebrations in anywhere. We started by making Joe a delicious birthday breakfast. We ended the day with homemade pizzeria style pizza and an ice cream cake that Abby picked our herself (specifically for her Daddy)!

Here's a glimpse at all the love that went into preparing for Joe's special day:
