15 month highlights
15 months old - every month seems to be an even better age than the last. It seems like there is something new to celebrate everyday...a new word, a new level of understanding, a new dance move or just a genuinely sweet moment that I wish I could make stand still and never forget. But, that's what this blog is for: capturing the sweet memories. I'm really so thankful! I love thinking about sharing all of these entries with Abby as she grows.
Tonight, I'll share with you some of our recent highlights. And I will refrain from saying "Amazing!" after every story for your sake, but you know what I'm really thinking!
1. the garbage and the hamper: Abby has learned the purpose of both and is very quick to use them. Today, she woke up, went into the living room with Daddy to have some milk and saw a piece of paper sitting on the living room table. She picked it up, gave it a quick "read" and then walked into the kitchen and put it in the garbage. After my shower, she walked into the bathroom, picked my clothes up off the floor and dragged them into her bedroom where she put them all into her hamper. Thanks Abby for cleaning up after Mommy!
2. We went to the doctor for her 15 month visit. This might have been the hardest visit so far. It was the first time, Abby knew she definitely did not want people touching her with weird things or putting on purple gloves to poke her with needles. Phew! Glad when that one was over. Abby was a trooper after the shots and she took a really nice long nap that afternoon. This is a picture of her after she woke up from her 1.5 hour nap and fell back to sleep for another hour on my shoulder. I took the opportunity to rest myself! :)
3. First pigtails! Or really first ponytail of any kind. This also marks a big girlie breakthrough because Abby now allows and even invites bows in her hair. These probably only stayed in for 30 minutes or so, but we're getting there. Her hair is getting so long and she loves when we brush and style it.

4. With the season change comes fun new foods. I don't know about you, but when the temps hit the 70's this week, we were ready to break out the corn on the cob (and have an obligatory hotdog/pasta salad night of course)! Abby loved every minute of it. She mastered the corn like a pro. I think it's a new favorite.

5. Some of Abby's new words are:
6. Abby's favorite book at the moment is Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton. The story goes like this (oh yes, I can recite it from memory!):
Mommy reads: A cow says Moo.
Daddy reads: A sheep says Baa.
Mommy reads: Three singing pigs say.....
Abby reads: Ya Ya Ya = La La La
7. New fascination: running into a room and closing the door. Thankful she can't reach any locks yet. When she has something she shouldn't and she doesn't want anyone to see, she does what any rebellious teenager would think to do. Oh you know, she goes in her room and shuts the door in my face. Good thing she is really just a sweet little girl who thinks it's funny and likes me to chase her around. We have had many good laughs over this one. This morning, she did this to Joe. She didn't have anything she shouldn't, but she went into the bathroom and shut the door behind her. Joe followed with the camera. I think the video speaks for itself. A girl needs her privacy.
Just to clarify: You might be wondering why Joe asked Abby for a hamsteak. It's a little weird, but we started calling her a ham and then once I said, "Are you my little hamsteak?" Now, when we say the word "hamsteak", Abby cheeses up with her cute smile! Inside joke I guess. :)

I can't wait to see how she responds when we break out the nailpolish! hehe

5. Some of Abby's new words are:
- Mohhh (accompanied by her sign language) = more
- Sahhhhh = sock
- Nana = banana, also used for corn on the cob which she thinks is a banana as well.
- Ba-Be = baby

8. Lastly, I've noticed Abby sitting and watching me put on my makeup or do my hair for a while now. But, within the last couple of weeks, she has stood there and begged me to pick her up to see and be a part of it. I decided to sit her up on my dresser, so she could watch. She took my makeup brush like a natural and tried herself! Don't worry there was nothing on it. When she pulled the lip gloss out, she tried to apply to her lips. What a observant little girl. It reminded me of how important it is for me to pray for her feminine heart as she grows and shepherd her to embrace true beauty from a very young age.
Baby girl, you are beautiful! May you know from the very beginning of your life that your worth and beauty come from the Lord. You are His masterpiece and you are fearfully and wonderfully made. I'm thankful for every single way the Lord made you uniquely in His image!

Happy Easter!
Today, we had a great Easter celebration with family and friends! We spent the morning at church together and then came home for a delicious brunch, Easter egg hunt and games. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus everyday. Today was just an extra special celebration. Thank you Jesus!
Before you check out some great pictures from our day together, take a moment to watch this video. This is the song that started our worship service this morning. My heart is overwhelmed with Jesus' love and I'm reminded of it so sweetly when I listen to the words to this song.

gathering her eggs- she really didn't want to use her basket. She wanted to hold them all in her hands.

playing Quelf (a fun new board game) that Ashley and Jess brought. (thanks guys!) Let's just say the game is the reason Ashley is wearing a game controller as a necklace and Jess is wearing a bib and applying lipstick! So much fun! We love these ladies!

Helper
Such a little helper! Abby couldn't wait to help yesterday when I was cleaning the floors! She helped in the front hall, the kitchen and the bathroom.

Little Mommy
Look at this little mommy-in-the making pushing her baby around in her new stroller. Grandma and Casey came to visit today and brought Abby a baby stroller and baby bottle for her baby. It took her a couple of hours to decide she liked having her baby doll in the stroller and to realize that the baby bottle and sippy cup weren't going to produce anything real for her to drink, but once she did she was mothering her little baby like a natural. It is so sweet.
We spent a lot of time outside watching Abby push her baby around today. Then, she would take the doll (who has yet to be named) out, put her on the grass and feed her with the sippy cup. Adorable!
Thank you "Ama" and Casey!

Cerulean, Robin's Egg Blue, Dandilion, Fuschia....
Familiar words to a Crayola kid like me! Not to mention, those are also some of the best colors in the box. Oh man, do you remember the biggest box of 120 that had the built in sharpener? I've always been a bit of a crayon nerd. I'd get so excited on Christmas morning to open a brand new box. I can even remember the year I got the box that came in collector's tin. Did you know that certain colors even get retired as others are created? Apparently, I still love crayons just as much. There's still nothing like a fresh box of Crayola crayons....even when it's only the 24-count box. (In case you are a closet crayon nerd too!)
When Abby turned one, I sat her in my lap with a piece of paper and gave her one crayon. She made a few lines and then bit the tip off. Hmmm....now looking back maybe it was a little early. But, I've had a box of crayons in the drawer waiting to be broken into since I hit a great back-to- school sale three years ago. (just in case I wanted to color a picture...I needed to have some crayons around the house!) Anyway, one year was a few months too early.
Today, I decided to try again. It was a hit! I sat Abby up in the high chair and watched as my baby girl appreciated her coloring experience for the first time. Delight! It won't be long before we are doing crafts together everyday! hehe :)

This weekend, we enjoyed a visit from our Cassel family. Almost everyone was in town and that rarely happens. We missed Uncle Brad and Alex!
We enjoyed every minute of being outside in the gorgeous sunshine for Robbie's lacrosse game on Saturday. Abby was happy as ever to be running around outside AND having everyone pay attention to her! :)

Abby adores dogs. All she wanted was for us to let her go free to play with the yellow lab sitting nearby. He was leashed and Abby couldn't understand why he wouldn't come to her. She kept reaching her arm out to offer him her goldfish and he wasn't coming. Then, she dug into her diaper bag, found a little bear and tried to offer it to him, but of course as much as he reached he still couldn't come to her. So, of course then Abby started whining until we took her over to him. After asking the owner if he was safe to pet, Abby was delighted to pet this puppy. She couldn't get enough and just kept squealing in excitement. Precious!

playing the 'ice' game with Nana: taking the ice out of the cup, putting it on the ground, picking the ice up and putting it back in the cup
Uncle Tommy was pretty wiped out after a long week! Our couch really is that comfortable...sleep is almost impossible to resist.

Thanks for making the trip and spending time with us! We love you guys.

Thank you Grandma!
Since Grandma sent Abby an Easter present and wasn't here to see her open it, we did the next best thing.... we skyped!
