Dinner and sandcastles at the beach with friends

a special birthday celebration

When Mama can't be with us for birthdays throughout the year, we celebrate in a belated way together in Florida. Tonight, we celebrated 4, 6.5 and 83 with ice cream cake, "under the sea" decorations from the dollar store and lots of dancing.

This might be Joe's favorite picture from our entire vacation. You see, on one of our last nights, we went out to dinner at this fun and popular restaurant on the beach. This amazingly beachy open air restaurant came complete with pigeons. Anyone who knows me, knows that birds are my least favorite animals. I mean nice birds are great (in cages), but you won't catch me walking through the bird house at the zoo (without severe anxiety) or eating my french fries out in the open on the boardwalk. I know those seagulls have one purpose in life and it is to attack me for my food. Pigeons are no better. They don't bother me much in NYC, but when they troll around me pecking around my feet for food and I'm seated next to the baby who hasn't figured out how to not drop her food yet...not the most relaxing experience for me. In fact, after this picture was taken I insisted that Joe switch seats with me, which only partially solved the problem because I still had to feed Juliet. I was just less accessible. The whole family (especially Abby) found the whole process hilarious. She kept saying, "Look Mommy! A pigeon under your chair!" while laughing hysterically. Loved the dinner. Loved the time spent with family. Loved the beach. I could have done without the pigeons. I have anxiety just typing out this story again. Ha.

A walk on the pier after dinner seemed like the perfect way to end the night.

So many favorites happening in this picture

Watching the pelican catch his dinner and soaking up every last bit of the salty ocean air.

A very special Weekend to Remember event
It's humbling to love and pray for a community of people for years and then have the opportunity to serve them in marriage ministry. I held down the fort at home, while Joe helped to lead the even at Mama's Hungarian club. I'm rejoicing and praying for the couples whose lives, marriages and family legacy were impacted by the Art of Marriage that weekend. God is at work! We are blessed that he asks us to be a part of it.

These goodbyes are always so hard for me. It's safe to say we missed her before we even hit the highway. We love you, Mama!
