15 month highlights

15 months old - every month seems to be an even better age than the last. It seems like there is something new to celebrate everyday...a new word, a new level of understanding, a new dance move or just a genuinely sweet moment that I wish I could make stand still and never forget. But, that's what this blog is for: capturing the sweet memories. I'm really so thankful! I love thinking about sharing all of these entries with Abby as she grows.

Tonight, I'll share with you some of our recent highlights. And I will refrain from saying "Amazing!" after every story for your sake, but you know what I'm really thinking!

1. the garbage and the hamper: Abby has learned the purpose of both and is very quick to use them. Today, she woke up, went into the living room with Daddy to have some milk and saw a piece of paper sitting on the living room table. She picked it up, gave it a quick "read" and then walked into the kitchen and put it in the garbage. After my shower, she walked into the bathroom, picked my clothes up off the floor and dragged them into her bedroom where she put them all into her hamper. Thanks Abby for cleaning up after Mommy!

2. We went to the doctor for her 15 month visit. This might have been the hardest visit so far. It was the first time, Abby knew she definitely did not want people touching her with weird things or putting on purple gloves to poke her with needles. Phew! Glad when that one was over. Abby was a trooper after the shots and she took a really nice long nap that afternoon. This is a picture of her after she woke up from her 1.5 hour nap and fell back to sleep for another hour on my shoulder. I took the opportunity to rest myself! :)

3. First pigtails! Or really first ponytail of any kind. This also marks a big girlie breakthrough because Abby now allows and even invites bows in her hair. These probably only stayed in for 30 minutes or so, but we're getting there. Her hair is getting so long and she loves when we brush and style it.

4. With the season change comes fun new foods. I don't know about you, but when the temps hit the 70's this week, we were ready to break out the corn on the cob (and have an obligatory hotdog/pasta salad night of course)! Abby loved every minute of it. She mastered the corn like a pro. I think it's a new favorite.

5. Some of Abby's new words are:
  • Mohhh (accompanied by her sign language) = more
  • Sahhhhh = sock
  • Nana = banana, also used for corn on the cob which she thinks is a banana as well.
  • Ba-Be = baby

6. Abby's favorite book at the moment is Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton. The story goes like this (oh yes, I can recite it from memory!):

Mommy reads: A cow says Moo.
Daddy reads: A sheep says Baa.
Mommy reads: Three singing pigs say.....
Abby reads: Ya Ya Ya = La La La

7. New fascination: running into a room and closing the door. Thankful she can't reach any locks yet. When she has something she shouldn't and she doesn't want anyone to see, she does what any rebellious teenager would think to do. Oh you know, she goes in her room and shuts the door in my face. Good thing she is really just a sweet little girl who thinks it's funny and likes me to chase her around. We have had many good laughs over this one. This morning, she did this to Joe. She didn't have anything she shouldn't, but she went into the bathroom and shut the door behind her. Joe followed with the camera. I think the video speaks for itself. A girl needs her privacy.

Just to clarify: You might be wondering why Joe asked Abby for a hamsteak. It's a little weird, but we started calling her a ham and then once I said, "Are you my little hamsteak?" Now, when we say the word "hamsteak", Abby cheeses up with her cute smile! Inside joke I guess. :)

8. Lastly, I've noticed Abby sitting and watching me put on my makeup or do my hair for a while now. But, within the last couple of weeks, she has stood there and begged me to pick her up to see and be a part of it. I decided to sit her up on my dresser, so she could watch. She took my makeup brush like a natural and tried herself! Don't worry there was nothing on it. When she pulled the lip gloss out, she tried to apply to her lips. What a observant little girl. It reminded me of how important it is for me to pray for her feminine heart as she grows and shepherd her to embrace true beauty from a very young age.

Baby girl, you are beautiful! May you know from the very beginning of your life that your worth and beauty come from the Lord. You are His masterpiece and you are fearfully and wonderfully made. I'm thankful for every single way the Lord made you uniquely in His image!

I can't wait to see how she responds when we break out the nailpolish! hehe
